D5310
The bodywork overhaul & repaint into 1960s livery of Waverley Route bound Sulzer Type 2 D5310 (26010) has now been completed at the Great Central Railway and the locomotive has moved to a new restoration base at Bo'ness.

The locomotive was purchased by Waverley Route Heritage Association members in November 2004 and will eventually be put to use on the section of Waverley Route currently being restored by the group at Whitrope, south of Hawick.

5310 at the GCR
In January 2006, 26010 moved the short distance from Northampton & Lamport Railway to the Great Central Railway for coach builder John Robinson to carry out the extensive rebuilding work. Prior to that it had been laid up for several years underneath tarpaulins in Pitsford sidings on the NLR.

Now carrying a livery of green, off-white stripe & cab surrounds, small yellow warning panel and light grey roof, D5310 closely resembles the locomotive it once was when allocated to Haymarket depot around 40 years
ago. It has also become the first preserved loco of its type to have nose-end gangway doors reinstated and now carries a new set of marker discs at each end, constructed directly from original plans.

On 28th November D5310 was tripped the short distance from the carriage & wagon shed at Rothley to Quorn, ready for its move off GCR metals. The following day it was moved by low loader and reached Bo'ness two days later.

Work to complete the cab internals and get the locomotive mechanically fit will be undertaken by WRHA volunteers with supervision & assistance from members of the SRPS Diesel Group. It is anticipated the loco will be running again by summer 2007 and will initially be run-in at Bo'ness, ultimately
moving the short distance to the WRHA site in the Scottish Borders.
